Description
Berechnung und Gestaltung von Kunststoff-Flanschverbindungen
FKM 1995
Booklet No. 198
Project No. 173
Final Report
Abstract:
The aim of the research project is to develop design guidelines that enable the targeted design of thermoplastic flanges with regard to their behavior under external loads, especially at elevated temperatures. In a first step, geometric design parameters of existing plastic flanges were determined and a model flange was developed for which the relationship between these geometric parameters and the mechanical flange properties was investigated using the finite element method. The simulation calculations were initially verified using model flanges manufactured under tension. However, in order to take into account the influence of injection molding production, which is prevalent in industrial practice, an injection molding tool was designed and put into operation that enables the production of different geometry variants of a model flange. A test station was developed for the mechanical testing of these injection-molded model flanges at high temperatures. The test results for different flange geometries, materials and loads are documented in the form of diagrams and design notes. In addition, interferonmetric measurements of the deformations of the assembled flanges were carried out. The tests and structural analyses using the injection-molded model flanges confirm the suitability of the geometry parameters determined for the design of thermoplastic flanges.
