Abstract:

The lead time of customer orders has become a decisive competitive factor. A reduction in lead time can be achieved by adapting the process organization to the respective requirements of an order. In addition, the structural organizational prerequisites for cross-departmental coordination of order processing must be created. The aim of the project was the company-related rationalization of order processing through early and holistic rough planning and monitoring to shorten throughput times. The companies were to be given the opportunity to structure their order processing more effectively using a structuring methodology. The first step involved analyzing the current status of order processing. Parallel to a survey, order processing was analyzed in three companies in the production organization expert group1. The approaches found for centralized order planning, control and monitoring generally improved the transparency and efficiency of order processing. However, there was a need for action regarding tools for the systematic definition of process structures and active control of function execution. A structuring methodology based on typifying order characteristics was developed to systematically define the required functions and link them to order-related process structures: The methodology developed was integrated into a concept for order coordination. This includes the integration of coordination tasks in terms of information technology and organizational structure. The solution developed as part of the research project enables small and medium-sized companies to select and set up a suitable concept for the reorganization of their process and organizational structure. The steps required to apply the research results in a company are summarized in a guideline at the beginning of the report. Scope of report:
