Abstract:
The transition from conventional to computer-aided production of technical drawings naturally leads to the simultaneous existence of both forms of provision. At present, the number of old technical drawings in Germany is estimated at 100 million. There is a desire to be able to centrally archive and manage technical drawings in a form that can be processed by CAD systems in order to enable decentralized access and searches. Furthermore, such archiving is desirable with regard to liability and patent law issues, as there are no signs of ageing as with conventional archiving on paper. The international status of automatic drawing conversion in CAD systems does not currently extend much beyond the provision of vectorization software. The research project therefore focuses on an automatic conversion system for technical drawings that can convert all the necessary information from the template into a CAD-compatible description form. After the transformation of the vectorized data into the internal database of the developed recognition system, the first reconstruction steps of the geometry are carried out in a segmentation module, which are a prerequisite for further interpretation of the drawing. The separation of shape and auxiliary geometry is carried out using a syntactic analysis procedure for dimension entries. Based on this dimension recognition, the shape geometry can be parameterized. An adaptive text recognition module enables the information from the title block to be made available for the management of the drawings on the one hand, and the dimensions required for geometry correction to be interpreted directly on the other. The transfer of the analysis results to the target CAD system saves the time-consuming manual conversion of the drawing and enables the user to work just as efficiently with the converted drawing as with a drawing created on the CAD system itself. A release of the current software version can be made available to interested parties for use. Scope of report:
