FEM - Product Group Intralogistic Systems / Racking and Shelving

9.842 - 1
10.2.11 - 1
In recent years, the use of thin-walled, open profiles for uprights and longitudinal ledgers has become increasingly common in shelving design. The safety coefficients have been reduced in parallel due to the increased dimensional accuracy of the base material and in the production of the profiles.
In general, these types of racking systems offer fewer reserves against plastic deformation and damage to the racking system in the event of a collision with a dynamically operating storage and retrieval machine or a loading unit than in the past. Practical experience shows that a collision between massive parts of a storage and retrieval machine and the racking system leads to enormous damage. The focus of the FEM guideline is on the description of the approach of a push-through protection system in a pallet warehouse and the design of such a system, taking into account the kinetic energy introduced during the impact. FEM 9.842-1 is closely related to EN 528: 2009, which describes the "Limitation of forces" in chapter 5.6.3.
